Ancient Roman island
An ancestral history at the heart of the La Clape PDO
Nestled in the heart of the Massif de La Clapea former Roman island now transformed into the largest listed natural site in the Languedoc, theAbbaye des Monges celebrates an ancestral history that began in 1204. This historic jewel, one of the few Cistercian abbeys in France, evokes “Notre-Dame des Olieux”, a tribute to the estate’s centuries-old olive trees.
The term “Los Monges”, evoking the nuns, forges the abbey’s current identity. Under the leadership of Baroness Marie-Claude de Chefdebien, the abbey is committed to perpetuating the unique heritage of this emblematic place, a true icon of the Massif de La Clape wine.
